Fossil Rim...again...

I'm so behind on posting, it's sad. Completely inexcusable. How am I supposed to remember every moment of every day with these silly girls if I don't write it down the minute it happens?!

We have had a fun, busy week! Wes took a few days off work so that we could make a family trek out to Glen Rose/Fossil Rim. We love Fossil Rim. This is our 3rd trip in one year. Wednesday's are half price, and it's far enough away to feel like you're getting away for a little mini vacation, but close enough that the girls don't hate being in the car.

If you haven't been to Fossil Rim, it's a trip. The animals literally come to your car and eat right from your hand. Some of them, like the zebras and the ostrich, are very aggressive. You feed the aggressive ones by cracking your window and tossing their food out of the open crack.

Let me tell you the worst part about going to Fossil Rim with Wes.

The worst part about touring Fossil Rim with Wes, is seeing a gigantic ostrich running full throttle toward your open window- his long neck swooping, his giant beak pecking-and watching in horror as your husband doubles over with laughter because he's locked your window so that you can't roll it up.

Cruel, isn't it? Welcome to my life.

My sweet Ava. She has such a kind heart for animals. I think she would have spent all afternoon brushing this goat if we'd let her.

She also befriended this potbelly pig.

"Hello, lit-tle fella." That's what she says to things that are cute. She calls Leah her "little fella" on a daily basis. I have no idea where she picked it up, but I hope it stays around forever.

See this guy?

Remember him from last year? Such a wee little lad!

We stayed at the same bed and breakfast/farm as last year. It was gorgeous.

Just like last year, Ava enjoyed running wildly, and without caution, down the dusty dirt roads. We loved letting her have her freedom without the constant reminder to be watchful of cars.

One of our favorite parts about this mini-vacation was our trip to Dinosaur Valley State Park. It is so surreal to see actual dinosaur footprints. I'm unable to really wrap my mind around it. It's so incredible to know how old those footprints actually are!

We hiked to several different print locations, but hiking with a baby on your back and an unstable 3 year old can be tiring! Ava did really well maneuvering all the rocks and cliffs, but we decided not to continue the hike across the river. Something told us that probably wouldn't have been the best parenting decision we'd ever make....

Completely unrelated, Leah has begun doing this adorable thing with her hands. When you ask her where something is, "where's daddy?" or "where's Ava?" she puts her little hands up by here face, like, "I don't know?"

"Where are the animals?"

See? Cute, huh?

I'll leave you with this funny picture. Wes was so proud to have captured both of his girls on our iphones. Ava truly does love electronics as much as her daddy, and she is a pro with his phone. Leah just happened to get her little hands on one for a brief second.

We're headed into a busy weekend, and an even busier month. Happy Friday to you all.

I LOL'd reading about wes locking your window down with the ostriches. If he'd been driving when we visited as kids, i'm sure he'd of done the same thing to me.
